Addlington Capital, the owner of the site, has received planning permission to undergo redevelopment work on the site to create new shops and replace the café in the Market Square area of the centre.

The area is set to be reconfigured to create three new two-floor shops and the café will be replaced with a modern structure with additional seating.

Alex Wagstaff, partner at Addlington Capital, said:

The reconfigured shopping centre will provide modern retail accommodation for Burnley and we anticipate that it will attract a number of high quality retailers to the town.

Work on the development is expected to begin later this year with the new shops set to be trading by Christmas.

Charter Walk has 365,000 sq ft of retail floor space and receives more than nine million visitors every year.
